SARAJEVO, November 5 (FENA) – More than 190,000 tonnes of waste were permanently deposited at the Smiljevići landfill in Sarajevo last year, nearly 10,000 tonnes more than a year earlier, while the amount of packaging waste separated at the sorting facility declined. Along with the increase in waste volumes, the landfill is facing limited disposal space, a lack of capacity for treating biowaste and a non-operational plant for the utilisation of landfill gas, the Sarajevo Canton public utility company RAD told FENA.
