Preparing for a wider Union: Gradual integration and safeguards against backsliding by new members

BRUSSELS/STRASBOURG, October 6 (FENA) – On Tuesday, the European Commission published a proposal for discussion on the future of enlargement, offering candidate countries gradual integration, but with safeguard clauses intended to ensure that new members comply with the commitments they made during the accession negotiations.
