SARAJEVO, January 5 (FENA) - Unusually high temperatures for this time of year have caused many problems for farmers in Bosnia and Herzegovina, confirmed in a statement for FENA the Association of Farmers of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The president of that association, Nedžad Bićo, pointed out that this problem is particularly pronounced among beekeepers because there is a possibility that bees may freeze because warmer weather pulls them out of the hives.

He added that grain growers also have problems with pests that attack plants that are now sprouting, such as wheat and other fall-sown crops.

Bićo explained that there is no possibility to protect the plants that flourish at this time of the year, which will be especially felt in the spring because this kind of weather is not favorable for anything and could have a very bad effect on the spring sowing.

He emphasized that fruit growing could easily suffer as well, because fruit plants could begin to bud and then be destroyed by the first early frost.

Bićo claims that reduced yields are to be expected, and beekeepers could suffer significant damages.

He stated that it is still too early to talk about specific figures, but it is obviously inevitable.
